We created Good.ly to encourage Twitter and Facebook users to tell their friends about their favourite products; in turn, generating sales, and raising money for charity.

To take the next step with the service, there’s now a new incarnation that offers unprecedented accessibility for online retailers.

‘Chat for Charity’ is a small widget that appears on the retailer’s sale confirmation page; encouraging the buyer to post about their purchase, with the incentive that a percentage of any resulting sales would go to the charity of the retailer’s choosing.

The entire percentage – chosen by the retailer, will go to charity.

Our first partner in the project is the brilliant Prezzybox.com, with the widget going live on their site late last week.

We had even more people visiting Good.ly than last 100% Charity Tuesday, and we want the number to keep growing, so tell all your friends!

You may have noticed when creating a Good.ly shortened URL that some text pops up underneath the box.

This text tells you if the link you’ve created can raise money for charity or not.

If the link is for a retailer we’re not working with, or it’s not a product/service link, it will say a little something like this:

“The website URL you just shortened will not raise money for charity as it’s not participating in our program. Read more here, or take a gander at the list of some of our shops that will raise money.”

‘The list’ is a cool page on the Good.ly site that gives you a taste of some of the online retailers we work with – if your Good.ly link is for one of their products, you can be sure any sales commissions generated will go to charity. We have loads and loads more retailers on board, and you can simply find out if your URL will make money anytime you use Good.ly. If it says this:

“Congratulations, this shortened URL can raise money. Share this link with your friends, and 55% of commissions from any sales generated will go to your chosen charity.” (Or 100% on Charity Tuesday!)

Hooray! Your URL will turn the cogs of the Good.lyfier 3000 and helps those who need it most!

Why not take it for a spin?!

Well, this is what I’m going to do:

I’ll tweet about the digital camera I bought last week and recommend it to my followers – but before I publish it – I need a Good.ly link.

To create a Good.ly link, I need to find the camera on the retailers website, and copy the URL.

Then I’ll open Good.ly in a new window, and paste that URL into the space on the Good.ly homepage.

I can select one of the three charities, then click ‘Make it Good’.

The Good.lyfier 3000 will pump out a new, shortened URL for me to use in my post. I just copy it, and paste it wherever I want it, and if someone clicks on the link, sees the camera on the retailers site, and decides to buy it themselves, 100% of the resulting sale commissions will come back to the charity I originally clicked on.

The more people that click, and buy, the more cash for charity!

Do your bit on #CharityTuesday!

However, the weather got me thinking about all the lovely things I need (or really, really want) to help me get through the warmer months, and the particularly sunny knock-on effect should I happen to tell all my friends about the products that I love! If I post the product URLs using a Good.ly link, and my friends buy – the commissions from the sale will go to charity!

Well, you get the picture! This is how Good.ly works – you write about what you love, and just like word of mouth, sales happen. But with Good.ly – the commissions from the sales go to charity!!

All you have to do is post a Good.ly link for a product or service on your Facebook, Twitter…anywhere, and if the link generates any commission, we’ll give it all to charity!

Yep, the whole 100%.

You can take part in 100% Charity Tuesday by posting a Good.ly product link anywhere (check out some of our retailers here) and if one of your friends buys that item on Tuesday; our charities (Dogs Trust, Crisis and ChildVoice) will get the commisssions, no matter where you are in the world – we’ll figure it out!

There is no cap on how much we’ll give – it’s all up to you users to put your #charitytuesday to good use and get cracking on Good.ly.

If we get a big enough response, we’ll do it again, and again. It’s all up to you!

Wherever you are, as soon as it ticks over to Tuesday, it counts. So get going, and tell your friends too!!

Introducing: The Good.ly Bookmarklets!

Tucked away in the footer of the Good.ly homepage, the link to the bookmarklets lurks, unassuming, but oh so awesome.

Click on the link, and we’ll take you on a magical (very quick) journey to the Bookmarklets page, just down the street.

If you’re using Mozilla Firefox, you’ll be able to drag the ‘Shorten with Good.ly’ link straight onto your bookmarks toolbar. Just choose the blue link corresponding to the charity you’d like to support!

This course of action will implant a Good.ly button on your toolbar so you can instantly create a Good.ly link!

Go to the page you want, click the button and you’ll be transported to http://good.ly with your shiny new URL waiting; ready to rock and roll.

From there, just copy and paste it everywhere!

And of course, for those of you running on Internet Explorer, things will be a little different, but still majorly rad.

For you guys,  just right click on the blue link under the charity of your choice, and select ‘add to favourites’.

From there, you can harness the power of Good.ly with one click in your favourites centre.

Now there’s no excuse not to use Good.ly for anything and everything – especially product links (the best kind of links) because they can help earn money for charity.
